Experience
The evidence behind the judgment.
Three decades leading technology and change where trust, regulation, and continuity are not negotiable.
Overview
This is a condensed view, chosen for its relevance to governance rather than for completeness. It shows the decisions, the scale, and the consequences I have been accountable for.
Selected roles
As Chief Information Officer, Shared Services, I am accountable for technology at IANZ, an Autonomous Crown entity, and provide group technology services to Telarc under a shared services agreement. I lead a board endorsed three year transformation spanning CRM, finance, cloud, and cyber security. I reframed board and committee reporting from technical detail to decision useful narrative on investment, posture, and residual risk. I established the organisation’s first enterprise and security risk register, improved its Microsoft Secure Score by 56 points in six months against ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and the New Zealand Information Security Manual, and delivered more than NZD 200,000 in verified annual savings without reducing service. I report assurance and delivery to the Board, the Audit and Risk Committee, and the Digital Transformation Committee.
Engaged by IANZ, an Autonomous Crown entity, to modernise the Accreditation Services CRM capability. Work on the CRM surfaced broader risk and capability gaps across the wider technology estate. That evidence informed the case for an expanded enterprise mandate and the subsequent appointment as Chief Information Officer.
I led secure cloud modernisation for a Māori led software organisation whose platforms run as national critical infrastructure, including the national e-prescription service. I consolidated three businesses onto a single platform, migrated five core systems to Azure, and reduced capital expenditure by 40 per cent while holding ISO/IEC 27001 throughout. Within two weeks of the first COVID-19 lockdown, I stood up a 24/7 contact centre to sustain services to vulnerable communities.
I advised chief executives, CIOs, and senior leadership teams across banking, insurance, healthcare, utilities, and government in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and China. I turned strategy into executable roadmaps in regulated, complex environments, sustained above 90 per cent client utilisation with repeat engagement, and co-authored three published Microsoft works on modern service management adopted across the region.
I was engaged to recover a stalled retail banking app transformation. I delivered the Westpac One internet banking platform after two prior failed attempts, with commendation from the New Zealand chief executive, and restored release governance and delivery discipline across five release cycles in a high consequence, regulated environment.
Senior roles in service management, release and change, and carrier side telecommunications across insurance, telecommunications, media, energy, and local government. Highlights include cutting outstanding problems by 93 per cent in five months at Tower Insurance, with the change process commended in the annual PwC audit, and building a release and change team of nine at Auckland Council in two months, under budget.
